Ohio voters Vote Too Often

It's been found in Ohio that there have been a number of precincts where voter fraud or count error has been discovered. How do you let 2600 ballots to be double counted unless you are trying to get one person to win. There should be some changes made to how the election system should be set up. There should be a national system so all states can be uniform. First, there was the scandal in Florida the last election and now allowing a person to vote absentee and then allow them to vote on election day. Then, there were probably people using the provisional ballot in conjunction with their regular vote as well. It's crazy how we are suppose to be the most sophisticated country in the world and we can't even get something simple like voting done without something being messed up. I would make the election system all digital and place all registered voters into a database so voters could vote at any voting station in any part of the country. That way it would knock out the absentee vote, allow students to vote even if they are out of state, allow people to vote once, and automatically count the vote.

Osama's Wishes

Was the re-election of Bush really the best thing for us to do? On Halloween, Osama Bin Laden made a television appearance addressing the Muslim people. Basically, he said that he wanted Bush to win because with Bush in office, he would see the fall of the United States. Are we in danger of being taken over by the Muslim community or are we going to prevail like we have in the past. Maybe Kerry was right when he said that we need to build a stronger alliance to combat this war. Maybe we are wrong in being wrapped up in the fear of another 9/11. Maybe we were wrong when we allowed Bush to remain in office. There is no end to the war on terror because terrorists will always be around. We are the most sophisticated country in the world but we lack the intelligence to detect when someone is plotting against us. The goal of those pilots who flew into the World Trade Center is still not finished. They are just not alive to see the domino effect it has caused. I assume that we will continue to have troops in the Middle East for the next four years unless, Bush realizes that there can’t be an end to a war with no defined enemy. What needs to be done is strengthen the anti-terrorism unit of the FBI and let them do their job, protect the homeland.

Pepper Spray Death

The use of non-lethal weapons kills too. Wednesday night after the Red Sox beat the Yankees some 60,000-80,000 fans took to the streets to celebrate the victory. As police thought that these people were rioting they broke out the riot gear to try and disperse the crowd. Police shot a pepper spray canister into the crowd to calm them down. One of the canisters hit Victoria Snelgrove, a college student, in the eye. She later died from the incident. The irony about this was these people were celebrating the fact that their team was going to the World Series for the first time in 18 years. These people weren’t rioting they were happy citizens. I believed that this would be a news story out of the Bronx because of the distraught fans you watched their team throw the series away from being up 3-0.

The Debate

How many times can you really say the same thing until it starts to hurt you? During the Sept. 30th Presidential Debate, I wanted to throw something at President Bush for not being able to think of anything else to say about John Kerry besides “Wrong war, wrong time, wrong place.” Before watching the first presidential debate, all the news channels I watched said that Bush was going to win the debate. While I watched the debate, I saw Bush struggle to find what words to say to reply to Sen. Kerry’s statements. When Bush found something to use against Kerry in the debate he beat it to death. It was like every time it was Bush’s time to speak he brought it up saying things like, if you are saying things like wrong war, wrong time, wrong place how do you think the troops are going to feel. Well President Bush, the troops probably feel the same way as Kerry does. Like Kerry said, there are only two people that don’t think that Iraq was a mistake, Bush and Cheney. When Bush couldn’t use “wrong war, wrong time, wrong place” in his replies, he struggled. This is our leader and he can’t even make a logical argument without someone holding his hand. The highlight of the debate for me when Bush was talking about mexed, er…mixed messages. Tonight, there is another debate and I wonder if the questions that the audience is going to ask the candidates are scripted or not? If it’s not, how will Bush reply? We will find out.

Campaigns, Just Childs Play

I am 19 years old, and this year is the first year I will be able to vote for the person that I think should become President of the United States. I’m happy I am able to perform one of my civic duties and participate in democracy. Take a look at this, Campaign Ads Escalate to New Negative Levels. These ad campaigns that the two major candidates are putting out are like two kids on a long road trip, just going at it back and forth like there isn’t anything better to do. Who are these ads convincing? Do you really watch these ads and take these messages seriously? What Bush and Kerry need to be doing is focus on the issues concerning Americans today. What’s going to be done about the economy, what’s our exit strategy from Iraq, what about Iran and North Korea, how can we get more jobs here? Why do we have to wait until the debates come around to get the answers to these questions and more? Someone needs to be the bigger man and try and win votes with these ads instead of finding a new fact about the other to exploit. I am looking forward to the debates so I can make my decision of who I am going to vote for on Nov. 2, but I think I already know who I am voting for.

Freedom

The term that I am defining is "freedom." the term needs to be defind because of what we are trying to do in Iraq. It is important because the term freedom doesn't mean "total freedom." The audience is government officials at the national level, especially those who are for "Operation Iraqi Freedom." I will use examples
America! The land of free and the home of the brave. These are the words of the "Star Spangled Banner," our National Anthem. If we were to change the lyrics to go with today's time, we would change the word free to the word restricted. Freedom is a concept that has been bended to adhere to the current times. You are free to speak, but if you speak your mind to a person of authority and he or she doesn't like what you say you will be put in jail. Freedom just doesn't mean being able to do something, it means being able to do it without any worries. The Iraqi people have freedom from Saddam's regime, but they are still under the influence of the Insurgents. No one has total freedom unless you are by yourself on a deserted island fending for yourself. Government takes freedoms away from us. In the U.S. our guaranteed freedoms are laid out in the 1st Amendmend of our Constitution, but in recent years some of those freedoms have been restricted through the Patriot Act. In other countries, they have even more restricted freedom.
